The Winter Prince by Elizabeth Wein

The Winter Prince (The Lion Hunters, #1)

WHAT'S IT ABOUT?
Medraut is the eldest son of Artos, high king of Britain and, but for an accident of birth, would be heir to the throne. Instead, his younger half-brother, Lleu, fragile and inexperienced, is chosen. Medraut cannot bear to be commanded and contradicted by this weakling brother who he feels has usurped both his birthright and his father's favor. Torn and bitter, he joins Morgause, the high king's treacherous sister, in a plot to force Artos to forfeit his power and kingdom in exchange for Lleu's life. But this plot soon proves to be much more-a battlefield on which Medraut is forced to decide, for good or evil, where his own allegiance truly lies.

Excellent writing!
This book was COMPLEX.  It took me a little while to get through it, only because it required a great deal of concentration.  Trust me, if I take the time to concentrate on a book, I REALLY LIKE IT!

I’m not familiar with Arthurian Literature, so I probably can’t do this review justice. What I do know is that the main character, Medraut, had a messed up family life! *SPOILERS, Sorry!* He was forced to live with the consequences of his dad’s (/uncle?) mistake and despite being first-born, he couldn’t even be king!  Not to mention he was being manipulated by his mom/aunt (/lover? EWW).  I felt Medraut had every right to be the angry, twisted character that he was.  My only disappointment was that Morgause (the mom) wasn’t burned at the stake.  ANYWAY, I got caught up in this story.  5/5 STARS

Monument 14 by Emmy Laybourne

 Monument 14
WHAT’S IT ABOUT?
Fourteen kids. One superstore. A million things that go wrong.

In Emmy Laybourne’s action-packed debut novel, six high school kids (some popular, some not), two eighth graders (one a tech genius), and six little kids trapped together in a chain superstore build a refuge for themselves inside. While outside, a series of escalating disasters, beginning with a monster hailstorm and ending with a chemical weapons spill, seems to be tearing the world—as they know it—apart.

UnWholly

I view it as an honor to introduce the first book I'm going to review: UNWHOLLY. This is the sequel to a novel called Unwind. Sorry to start with a sequel, (BOO!) but I just finished reading this and it inspired me to start this blog. Here goes nothing! :D

WHAT'S IT ABOUT? Thanks to Connor, Lev, and Risa—and their high-profile revolt at Happy Jack Harvest Camp—people can no longer turn a blind eye to unwinding. Ridding society of troublesome teens while simltaneously providing much-needed tissues for transplant might be convenient, but its morality has finally been brought into question. However, unwinding has become big business, and there are powerful political and corporate interests that want to see it not only continue, but also expand to the unwinding of prisoners and the impoverished.

Cam is a product of unwinding; made entirely out of the parts of other unwinds, he is a teen who does not technically exist. A futuristic Frankenstein, Cam struggles with a search for identity and meaning and wonders if a rewound being can have a soul. And when the actions of a sadistic bounty hunter cause Cam’s fate to become inextricably bound with the fates of Connor, Risa, and Lev, he’ll have to question humanity itself.

Rife with action and suspense, this riveting companion to the perennially popular Unwind challenges assumptions about where life begins and ends—and what it means to live.
